2020: The Year We Lost Contact
As much as I really fucking hate "fan art" and "tributes", I somehow managed to concoct this. It's a reference to Stanley Kubrick's 2001: A Space Odyssey with the monolith of the film being replaced by an iPhone, and the hominins with modern humans of varying age and reaction to the technology.
In a horizontal orientation, the monolith is surrounded by the humans in a grayscale void, absent of color. Once outside of the immediate vicinity of the depression-inducing technology, the world is seen in color; shaped in a manner to represent a hand, yet lifeless, bleak and void of vegetation or other life.
In it's vertical orientation, the "hand" becomes an angler fish, the shooting star behind the phone plays the part of the fish's light - mesmerizing and enticing the humans for consumption.
The canvas has been painted in such a way to make the piece itself appear as the iPhone monolith - sides have been painted silver, the back painted to have 3 cameras, with the lenses being replaced with HALs.
